Let’s talk about jobs for a minute. In the real world, employers look for both knowledge and skill when they are hiring. As a general rule, the more money a job is going to pay the more knowledge and skill is required to get that job.
Also, employees are supposed to be an asset to their employers. If a company is going to pay someone a $100k salary, that someone better bring more than $100k worth of value to that company. Otherwise, there is no reason for them to be working there.
With those things in mind, let me ask you a question. Based on your current knowledge base and skill level, would you hire yourself? And if so…how much would you pay yourself? Be honest.
The harsh reality is that most struggling chiropractors aren’t worth what they want to be paid. There is something lacking in their knowledge base or skill level (or both) that prevents them from being a high-value asset. Essentially, they are unqualified.
As an associate, unqualified chiropractors aren’t offered high-paying positions because they don’t bring high-value knowledge and skills to the hiring practice. As a chiropractic business owner, unqualified chiropractors struggle to grow because they don’t bring high-value knowledge and skills to their own practice.
So back to my original question, would you hire yourself? Would you pay yourself the salary that you keep telling yourself that you are worth?
If you would hire yourself…GREAT! That means you are either a valuable asset and doing well OR you are totally blind to how bad you suck and things are worse than you think. (Hopefully, it’s the former.)
If you wouldn’t hire yourself…GREAT! At least now you know. So what are you going to do about it? How are you going to go about improving your knowledge base and skill level to become a high-value asset that you know you can be?
