The other day someone asked me what an abundance mindset meant to me. Honestly, it made me roll my eyes. I was thinking, “Here we go. One of these manifest your future guys.”

I know this isn’t going to set well with a percentage of chiropractors, but I’m going to say it anyway. The law of attraction is stupid. You aren’t God. You aren’t a little god. You don’t create the world around you with your thoughts. You don’t manifest anything.

There…I said it. It felt good, too.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I know mindset is important. How you think impacts how you act. How you act impacts your life. So in that sense, mindset does impact your life, but only as much as it impacts your actions.

If you could only pick one, I would tell you to get your habits right before worrying about getting your mind right. I don’t particularly care how you feel about the task at hand, positive habits will move the needle regardless of how you feel.

A positive mindset alone is of little value. There is no scenario where you can think yourself into the life of your dreams. Sooner or later, you are going to have to put the rubber to the road…pen to paper. If you want to change your life, you are going to have to work for it.

With that said, it’s easier to have good habits when you have a good attitude. A positive mindset can give you the energy and motivation needed to work hard. A positive mindset may help you stay the course at times when you might have otherwise quit.

That’s why the best-case scenario for your success is for you to have positive habits AND a positive mindset. They work hand-in-hand, but the driving force for your success will be your positive habits.

We live in a world that overemphasis the power of thoughts. There are people out there who are so convinced that they can manifest things that they aren’t honest to themselves or anyone else about their situation.

They act as if admitting that they are struggling or saying that their practice isn’t doing as well as they would like is some sort of death nail to their future best life. People like that go around living life like the people in the Lego Movie, “EVERYTHING IS AWESOOOOME!!!”

If that’s something you struggle with, let me ease your mind. Your thoughts and words don’t have that sort of power. You aren’t God….which is a good thing.

You aren’t going to wreck your future blessings in life by admitting that you are currently having a hard time. The reason you are struggling is because you don’t know what you are doing and you have bad habits. It’s not because you complained when you should have said something positive.

Lying is never good…even when you are doing it to yourself. And if you keep telling yourself that everything is fine when everything isn’t fine, that’s exactly what you are doing. My suggestion is that you be honest with yourself.

Don’t think more highly of yourself than you should. Don’t think less of yourself than you should. Have an honest mindset. If you need help, ask for help. If you don’t know what you are doing, start learning.

The future, more successful YOU knows things that you don’t currently know and has habits that you don’t currently have. So work on that. Start learning new things. Start developing better habits. That’s how you’ll become the person you want to become.

OH…and it doesn’t hurt to have a good attitude along the way.

Podcast Transcript

Jerry: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of the Rocket Chiro Podcast—the business and marketing podcast for chiropractors.

Today, we’re going to talk about mindset versus habits and how these two concepts work together. I’ll also share some thoughts that might be controversial, especially when it comes to mindset, but we’re going to unpack all of that in this episode.

I recently wrote a blog, which is the background for today’s discussion. I’m not going to read the blog verbatim but will expand on some of the ideas throughout this episode, as I normally do. For those of you who dislike my meandering thoughts, you probably won’t enjoy this one. But for the rest of you, let’s dive in.

Before we get into that, if you’re looking for a better chiropractic website, head over to Rocket Chiro and reach out to me. I’d be happy to help you with your website, Google ads, or local SEO. These are services we provide through Rocket Chiro.

Speaking of which, I want to share a recent Google review from one of my clients, Dr. Carrie. She wrote:

“I’m glad I discovered Dr. Jerry and Rocket Chiro. I really appreciate the great website he built for me—it was painless, quick, and he was very attentive. His podcast and members’ information is spot on too. Thank you for offering such great service to chiropractors.”

Thank you, Carrie, I truly appreciate your kind words! If you’d like to leave a review, you can find Rocket Chiro on Google, or simply go to our website and click the “Review Us” button in the main menu.

Jerry (2:37): Now, let’s jump into today’s topic—mindset versus habits. Some of you who are big on the “abundance mindset” might not agree with what I’m going to say, but I’m going to keep it real because my goal is to help you grow your chiropractic practice and reach your goals. My job isn’t to make you feel good but to actually help you.

This conversation was sparked by someone who recently invited me to be on their podcast. They asked me what an abundant mindset and positive thinking mean to me. When I hear questions like that, I tend to roll my eyes. I know, I know, that’s not a great attitude, but I have my reasons.

Jerry (3:15): Now, let me clarify—I understand that mindset is important. Your thoughts impact your actions, and how you perceive the world can influence your behavior.

Mindset absolutely matters because it affects your habits and how you handle situations. For example, I was talking to my nephew recently, and he struggles with fairness. I reminded him that what 12-year-olds think doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of life. Having a mindset that can brush off irrelevant negativity is crucial.

However, I’m not a fan of what I call “hyper mindset culture”—the idea that your thoughts alone can manifest your reality. This “New Age” mentality, which promotes the belief that we’re little gods who can manifest our future simply through positive thinking or words, has permeated our culture, even in Christian circles.

Jerry (4:48): I don’t subscribe to that. I think it’s flawed, especially from a biblical standpoint. The idea that words alone have creative power is not aligned with Scripture.

I was introduced to this concept through “The Secret,” a popular book and documentary about manifesting, but I quickly realized that while your thoughts can influence your actions, they don’t magically change your reality.

Your thoughts only matter to the extent that they change your habits. If you have positive thoughts but don’t back them up with actions, nothing is going to change. And that’s the world we actually live in—you can’t simply think your way into a better future without doing the work.

Jerry (9:00): I often tell people this: the future you knows things you don’t currently know and has habits you don’t currently have. You’re not going to positively think yourself into becoming that person without learning new things and developing better habits.

Now, I’m not saying having a good attitude is worthless. It’s great to have both good habits and a positive mindset. But if I had to choose between the two, I’d take someone with bad attitude but good habits over someone with a positive attitude and bad habits any day.

Jerry (12:51): Let me give you a simple example. I don’t particularly enjoy mowing the lawn. I don’t have a good attitude about it, but I do it because it needs to be done. The result is a nice-looking yard. That’s what matters. Positive thoughts alone aren’t going to get my yard mowed.

This applies to many areas of life: your website, SEO, relationships, and even your chiropractic practice. You’re not going to positively think your way into more money and helping more people—you need to take action.

So, if you’re going to worry about mindset or habits, focus on your habits first. Work on your attitude, but prioritize doing better.

Jerry (15:57): One of the things I tell my Next Step members all the time is that people fail when they don’t set aside time to learn something new or apply what they’ve learned.

That’s not a mindset problem—that’s a bad habit. Don’t be the person who listens to podcasts, reads books, signs up for programs, but doesn’t actually take action. That’s a surefire way to go nowhere.

Jerry (18:26): So, to wrap up: prioritize your habits, work on your attitude, and build a better practice and life. Thank you for listening! If you need help with your website, SEO, or Google ads, visit Rocket Chiro and reach out to me.

If you know someone who could benefit from this podcast, please share it—I’d appreciate that a lot. I’ll talk to you in the next episode.

See ya!
