Here is something nobody in the marketing world wants you to know: chiropractors are actively targeted by bad SEO pitches, and not always because there is a lot of money to be made from chiropractic. It is partly because the people running these pitches know that most chiropractors were never taught business or marketing in school, and most of what they do know about local search is already years out of date by the time it filters through the profession.

That combination makes it easy for someone to show up in your inbox or DMs with a scary-looking report and get you to sign something before you have time to think it through. The goal is not to help your practice. The goal is to make you panic.

I want to help you stop falling for it.

Two Real Examples from the Past Week

Before we get to the red flags, let me give you two real situations my clients ran into recently.

The first was a free SEO grade scanner being promoted on social media. My client put in his information, got a C, and sent me the report asking what I thought. I skimmed it and found information that was completely, embarrassingly wrong. The report claimed his website had no internal links on the homepage. Every website has internal links on the homepage. The navigation alone proves it. The grade was manufactured to make him feel like something was broken so he would reach out to that person for paid help.

The second example was more sophisticated. A client forwarded me a video that appeared to show a real person doing a screen-recorded audit of his website, pointing out serious technical problems. The problem: that was not his website. I built his website. I know what it looks like. What this person had done was record a generic audit video and then use AI software to swap in my client’s practice name and a few visuals, making it look personalized. The technical claims in the video were also wrong. His site was not missing the things they said it was missing. It was a completely fabricated pitch designed to look like a custom analysis.

Both of these are designed to do the same thing: create panic so you make a fast decision.

Why This Keeps Working on Chiropractors

You were not trained as a marketer. You were trained to adjust spines. And the information that circulates through the chiropractic profession about local search and SEO tends to be years behind by the time it gets to you. That is not your fault, but it does leave you without a reliable gut instinct when someone starts throwing technical language at you and telling you your practice is in trouble.

The answer is not to become an SEO expert. The answer is to get better at recognizing the patterns. Here are five red flags worth keeping in your back pocket.

Red Flag 1: They Are Trying to Make You Panic

SEO is a long-term relationship between your website and Google. It is not a fire drill. The only thing on your site that warrants urgent action is if the whole site goes down, and even then, the average chiropractic practice gets a few hundred visitors a month, so the stakes of a brief outage are lower than you think.

Anyone who approaches you with language designed to make you feel like you are hemorrhaging patients and need to act right now is working the urgency angle on purpose. When you are in a panic state, you make worse decisions. That is exactly what they are counting on.

Hit pause. A legitimate problem will still be a problem tomorrow.

Red Flag 2: They Show You Evidence You Cannot Verify

If someone tells you something is broken on your website, ask them to show you how to check it yourself. Give them a chance to walk you through it in a way you can replicate. If they cannot do that, or will not do that, that is your answer.

In the AI video example above, if my client had simply asked for the URL they claimed to be auditing, he would have seen immediately that the page did not look the way they showed it. They were never going to give him that URL, because the whole thing fell apart the second he checked.

Real problems can be verified. Ghost evidence cannot.

Red Flag 3: They Lead with a Grade

Grade-based audit tools are a very effective piece of psychology. Nobody wants to get a D or an F on something that affects their income and their family. So you see that grade and the panic starts before you have even read a word of the fine print.

Here is what I want you to do instead: ignore the grade entirely and read the details. Is there actual explanation for why they gave you that score? Is the information accurate and specific to your site? If the details are vague, generic, or just plain wrong, the grade means nothing. A bad grade based on fabricated data is still fabricated data.

Good chiropractic website work is built on what is actually true about your site, not on a score designed to make you feel behind.

Red Flag 4: They Have a Secret

There are no secrets in SEO. There are things you may not know yet, and there are things that take expertise and time to do well, but none of them are secrets. When someone positions their approach as a hidden trick or a missing piece that only they have figured out, that is either dishonest or ignorant. Neither one is a person you want managing your local search presence.

The example I saw recently: someone was pitching a strategy where you buy a domain with the word “reviews” in it, load it with your Google reviews, and watch it rank when people search for your practice name. The idea being that AI is going to surface that over your actual Google Business Profile and your real review platforms.

That is not how any of this works. Google is not that easy to fool, and anyone suggesting otherwise is not someone who understands what they are selling you.

Red Flag 5: They Use Technical Language and Make No Effort to Explain It

Some of what goes into local search is genuinely technical. That is fine. You do not need to understand all of it to benefit from it. But there is a difference between complexity that exists because the work is real and complexity that is being used as a sales tool.

If someone is pitching you with terms you do not understand and they make no effort to explain what any of it means or why it matters for your practice specifically, ask yourself why. The most likely answer is that they need you confused. A confused chiropractor is more likely to say yes just to make the overwhelm stop.

A good partner in this space should be able to explain what they are doing and why it matters in terms that make sense to you, even if the underlying work is technical.

The Bottom Line

Working with someone on your SEO and local search is a relationship that typically runs six months to a year, minimum. The person who gets you to sign on the dotted line in a panic is not necessarily the person who is going to deliver results on the back end. Trustworthiness on the front end matters.

If you want a straight look at where your website and local search actually stand, without the manufactured urgency and the fake grades, you can request a free website and SEO review at RocketChiro.com. I will send you a real, in-depth custom video. No pressure, no panic, just honest information.
